Litchfield Elementary School
NARRATIVE
As the result of a Master Planning Initiative, Litchfield School District concluded that a new Elementary School, to serve grades 2nd through 5th was needed. In addition, one of their existing schools, Colt Elementary, was to be renovated with two small additions. Litchfield Primary (previously Colt Elementary) would serve Pre-K through 1st grade. The Master Plan also demolished 2 smaller buildings in a consolidation and maintenance saving effort.
Litchfield Elementary's interior design integrated playful, brighter tones of the school's dark purple color. In addition, blues and teals were integrated to help with wayfinding and provide a diversitfied palette, most suitable for elementary aged students. Every square foot of the building's efficient floor plan was utilized. Design emphasis was prioritized to the entry and student commons area. Playful nooks, fun graphics and integration of the school's Character Education Words were used throughout the facility. Materials were chosen carefully, to ensure durability and long term maintenance of the school.
