OTHS Smiley South Campus Renovation

NARRATIVE
O'Fallon Township High School District renovated an existing building, located just south of Smiley High School. The building was donated to the school and previously used as storage. They transformed the building into dedicated space for neurodivergent students. The building was outfitted with three classrooms, a full-service student cooking kitchen, a common gathering area and an enclosed exterior courtyard. The building also has other life skill teaching spaces such as a laundry room and a PAES lab. The classrooms feature an operable partition and modular casework, to lend itself to the districts ever changing needs.
The interior design of the space was carefully chosen with the end users in mind. The palette uses an adaptation of the school's traditional bold school colors. The softened blue and yellow palette, provides soothing tones for the neurodiverse students while keeping the feel of school pride in a traditional high school setting. Environmental graphics and exterior signage further help students and parents connect to the space. New furniture, in a neutral palette was selected and will be the standard for all classrooms in the district, moving forward.
